Michael Ziesmann, LLB, LLM, MTax

Michael Ziesmann is Counsel and Tax Director at Consortium Advisory. Prior to joining Consortium, he was a partner in the tax group at MLT Aikins LLP, one of Canada's largest law firms, where he spent 15 years advising professionals, high-net-worth individuals, public and private companies, and professional athletes on sophisticated tax and legal matters.

Michael advises on complex tax planning, business structuring, corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, trust planning, and the formation and compliance of mutual fund trusts and real estate investment trusts. He is recognized for designing technically sound structures that address nuanced tax challenges — and for translating highly complex legal and tax concepts into clear, direct language that empowers clients to make confident decisions.

Michael holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Manitoba, an LLB from the University of Western Ontario, an MTax from the University of Waterloo, and an LLM in Taxation from Osgoode Hall Law School. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada in Corporate Law, Trusts and Estates, and Tax Law, and by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading practitioner in Corporate Tax Law.
